While darkness spreads in many corners of the world, there exists a small, determined tribe turning their hope into action, and their action into light

OUR IMPACT AT A GLANCE

In just two years of program delivery, ATOVA International has evolved from a grassroots initiative into a multi-program development organisation transforming education, conservation, and health across Indonesia.

Across 13 communities, 10 in North Sumatra and three in Bali, ATOVA’s three core programs have reached thousands of young people, teachers, and families.

  • Empowerment Through Education (ETE): Over 2,500 students improving their english proficiency and academic confidence through practical, participatory learning.

  • ATOVA Ranger Training Corps (ARTC): More than 450 Junior Rangers trained in environmental stewardship, fieldcraft, and leadership.

  • Fit for the future (F4F): In just three months, over 300 students trained in physical fitness, nutrition, and emergency first aid.

Together, these programs advance SDG3 (Good Health & Wellbeing), SDG4 (Quality Education), SDG5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG15 (Life on Land), empowering a generation to build a more sustainable and equitable future.

Education that transforms futures

The Empowerment Through Education (ETE) program

The ETE Program lies at the heart of ATOVA’s mission: ensuring every child, regardless of background, has access to quality learning that builds opportunity and confidence.

In its first two years In Sumatra, ETE improved English test scores by an average of 27% with over 1,000 students reached weekly. Teachers reported greater engagement, stronger classroom confidence, and a visible shift in student motivation.

Now in year three, ETE has moved to Bali where it serves three communities and over 300 students weekly. Program data shows sustained improvement across all language domains, reading, writing, speaking, and listening, with rural schools outperforming provincial benchmarks for the first time.

“I never imagined I could speak in English,” said Siti Aminah, a teacher at ATOVA. “Now I help my students do what I once thought impossible.”

The program’s teacher development track has proven transformative: 85% of ETE teachers are local graduates, many of whom entered with minimal English ability and now lead classes confidently. The story of Kasih Isme, who advanced from basic English to dreams of university, embodies ETE’s philosophy of empowerment through opportuntity.

Key Impacts (2022 - 2025):

  • 2,500+ students reached across 13 communities.

  • Average of 27-35% increase in English proficiency across reading, writing, and speaking.

  • 5 teachers trained in ATOVA’s duel teacher model, improving lesson quality and student outcomes.

  • 75% of graduates demonstrated improved confidence and leadership in class participation.

  • Emerging university pathways: first generation students persuing higher education in education, communications, and social sciences.

Aligned SDGs: SDG4 - Quality Education, SDG5 - Gender Equality, SDG10 Reduced Inequalities.

ATOVA RANGER TRAINING CORPS

TRAINING TOMORROW’S CONSERVATION LEADERS -ATOVA RANGER TRAINING CORPS

The ATOVA Ranger Training Corps (ARTC) was founded with a simple but powerful idea: young people can be the protectors of Indonesia’s natural heritage.

Over the past three years, the ARTC has grown from a single pilot program in North Sumatra into a youth conservation network. With Seven Ranger Training Units (RTUs) established across schools and communities, with over 450 Junior Rangers recieving structured training in leadership, fielcraft, and environmental stewardship.

From biodiversity monitoring in Gunung Leuser National Park (TNGL) to community based reforestation, ARTC trainees learn by doing. They gain hands-on experience in patrols, wildlife protection, and sustainable land management, bridging classroom learning with real-world conservation.

“When I joined the ARTC I thought it would be more like scouts, then I realised I am learning to protect the jungle and life itself.” - Dina Juli Olivia- Junior Ranger RTU 1.

Program Achievements:

  • 450+ Junior Rangers trained and mentored across Indonesia.

  • 7 RTUs established in North Sumatra & Bali

  • Over 50 field patrols conducted in protected areas.

  • Partnerships with local authorities initiated to develop youth-led conservation activities.

  • Leadership development framework producing future conservation educators and community leaders.

The ARTC not only builds skills but transforms identities, fostering resilience, teamwork, and purpose among youth. Many graduates are now pursuing degrees in forestry, environmental science, and park managment, strengthening Indonesia’s capacity for sustainable conservation.

Aligned SDGs: SDG13- Climate Action, SDG15 - Life on Land.

FIT FOR THE FUTURE PROGRAM

BUILDING HEALTH, CONFIDENCE & RESILIENce

Launched in mid 2025, Fit for the Future (F4F) is ATOVA’s newest Program, and one already showing measurable results.

In its first few months, the program has trained over 300 students across three communities in Bali in Physical Fitness. The goal is simple yet profound: to build a generation that values health, strength, and community wellbeing.

Students participate in structured physical education sessions, learn about healthy eating, and practice emergency first aid, knowledge that saves lives and strengthens families. Early feedback from schools shows a significant increase in regular exercise participation improved diet awareness, and new interest in careers in health and fitness.

Early Results:

  • 300+ students trained in physical fitness and health literacy.

  • Students reporting regular exercise routines for the first time.

  • Growing interest in healthcare and fitness careers.

  • Improved awareness of nutrition and self care in both students and families.

  • Positive community health ripple effects across three Bali Villages.

By integrating physical wellbeing with ATOVA’s education and leadership models, F4F complements both ETE and ARTC, ensuring young Indonesians are not only educated and empowered, but fit for the future.

Aligned SDGs: SDG3 - Good Health and Wellbeing. SDG8 - Decent Work & Economic Growth.

ATOVA’s impact extends beyond its students, it transforms everyone involved.

VOLUNTEERS

Over three years, many international and national volunteers have joined ATOVA through the ATOVA Citizen Service pathway, and Global Internship schemes. These volunteers gained unparalleled experience in education, conservation, and community development.

LOCAL STAFF EMPOWERMENT

Over 80% of ATOVA’s team are Indonesian nationals, including program coordinators, teachers, and field instructors. Staff such as Siti Amina and Oloan Sihotang have grown from trainees to confident educators, leading programs that now reach hundreds.

Through continuous professional development, Open University Courses, and leadership mentoring, ATOVA builds capacity from within, proving that sustainable impact begins with investing in people.

“Atova is more than a place, its a transformative force. I was deeply moved by atova’s mission to empower individuals to realise their potential for positive change.” - Ezekiel Collins ACS Volunteer 2024
