Nestled just beyond the vibrant town of Kabanjahe, our Field Base in Sumatra is situated in the picturesque village of Kacaribu, within Karo Regency. The expansive house boasts a spacious communal kitchen and living area, serving as the heart of activities and camaraderie during training and leisure. Enjoy the outdoor ambiance with a patio area, an upstairs balcony, and a sprawling garden at the back—a perfect retreat for volunteers and staff to unwind in the evenings. Whether you're reading, planning lessons, or having breakfast, these spaces offer a tranquil backdrop. With gym facilities, table tennis, and ample work and relaxation zones, our Field Base becomes a home away from home for most ATOVA staff, fostering a close-knit family atmosphere.

Discover the enchanting town of Kabanjahe, strategically nestled between the awe-inspiring Tropical Leuser Ecosystem—the last refuge where Elephants, Tigers, Leopards, Rhinoceros, Sun Bears, and Orangutans coexist in the wild—and the undulating hills of Karo Regency. Positioned at the crossroads of two remarkable volcanoes, lush tropical rainforests, and breathtaking landscapes, Karo Regency provides an ideal backdrop for our Field Base. This serene locale serves as your home during your transformative journey with the ATOVA Citizen Service, offering a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the wonders of Sumatra.

Field Base is conveniently located within walking distance of the nearest shop, and ATOVA ensures transportation to all project sites and communities. While engaged in the ATOVA Citizen Service, the majority of your time will be spent directly in communities. However, for training sessions and program events, you'll return to Field Base. A short drive away is Kabanjahe, offering a delightful array of traditional street food and a vibrant traditional market—an inviting destination often frequented by team members and volunteers.
