Day 1

Welcome to Sumatra!

Your adventure begins the moment you land, greeted warmly by our program's team right at the airport. You'll be escorted to our nearby training facility, where your journey as a volunteer will officially kick off with a comprehensive induction session.

Week 1

Immersive Induction Experience

Your first week is designed to fully acquaint you with the heart of your volunteer mission. Alongside our committed staff, you'll dive into the essentials of your placement and the ethos of ATOVA. Expect enriching sessions on Indonesian culture, environmental challenges, sustainable development, and other key topics that will underpin your experience. Additionally, you'll take your first steps on 'The ATOVA Path'—our specially crafted journey to personal and professional enrichment as a global citizen.

Week 2

Embracing Community Life

As you enter your second week, it's time to venture into the heart of Sumatra's rural landscape. You'll journey to the community that will be your home, meet the inspiring families who will be your hosts, and familiarize yourself with the local way of life. This is a week of meaningful introductions and cultural immersion, as you build bonds with the people and the environment you'll be working with. After soaking in the local sights and sounds, you'll circle back to our field base for the last stretch of preparations, gearing up for the impactful first phase of your on-site program delivery.

Weeks 5 & 6

Following the Phase Review, you and your team will return to your community to proceed with your program for an additional two weeks. During this period, you'll incorporate all the insights and knowledge gained from the Phase Review.

Phase Review

Upon completing Phase 1, you'll regroup with your peers at the Field Base to reflect on the milestones reached and the lessons learned. Together, you'll compile a 'legacy pack,' a thoughtful guide brimming with insights and tips to empower the next wave of volunteers.

But it's not all work; this interlude is punctuated with another adventure—a chance to unwind, bond through team challenges, and indulge in a variety of exhilarating activities. This is a time to share valuable experiences, recalibrate strategies, and gear up for an even more impactful Phase 2. Take advantage of this pause to reconnect with the world beyond—catch up online with family and friends, meander through the local town, and replenish your personal supplies. This review phase is a blend of productivity and leisure, setting you up for success as you return to the community with fresh perspectives and renewed vigor.
